Apps Village, A Sobering Review
http://mequongarage.com/docs/AppsVillage.pdf
Keywords: Mobile Apps Cost: $20/month + 5% of sales Audience: Anyone
They should have defined a narrow vertical market. As-is, this will flop for most businesses. Even if this concept technically works, nobody with a pencil and a calculator would pay $19.90 a month plus 5% of sales.

Their website is simple and could have been created in a weekend They didn't bother to include a person on the team who can compose sentences in English Their success testimonials, not all that successful They use Zendesk for support (great product but means they only do email which means they have no support staff) The code on their website, not too impressive...

DocHub by Microplant
https://dochub.com/sign-documents
Keywords: Digital Signing, PDF, Workflow, Cost: $0 Free Audience: Anyone
DocHub is a free online PDF editor that lets you view, edit and sign PDFs in your browser.

Multiple signers workflows: Getting a document signed by multiple individuals has never been easier. Specify who needs to sign and where, then send the document as a Sign Request and DocHub handles the rest.

Location: 180 Cambridge Street, Floor 2, Boston, MA 02114 and Microplant at 114 E Louisiana St, Ste. 206, McKinney, TX 75069

Quick Facts: 19.7 million users, 84.2 million documents. That's as per their website which is all good, but I'm always skeptical about free services. There's nothing stated about their business model. To pick an audience, this really needs a test drive.

Espo CRM
https://www.espocrm.com
Keywords: CRM Cost: Open source or Cloud-hosted $1 Audience: Small-Medium (Some on-site IT)
Web based CRM. One version for all your devices. Free of charge and open source CRM distributed under GPLv3; Tested with most hosting providers; New features every 2 months ; Responsive Design and latest Web Technologies; Lightning fast; No user limitation; Cloud and On-Premise version available; Easy to customize ; Open architecture for third party integration via API.

EspoCRM is the most flexible Open Source CRM out there. I've been trying most of the Open Souce CRMs and nothing comes close to a clean code, tight design. As for the Open Source commitment, they have a very active Gighub repository and decent activity. Love that it's 100% open source so you can install locally, but you have the option for cloud hosted as well.

SpringCRM is a contract and/or a document management system. If you want to see a demo, you need to introduce yourself along with your email. Looks like a darn impressive effort, but sadly no demos or videos can be viewed without scheduling a 1:1 request. A YouTube search did return a few vids. FUP appears to be mostly a sales pipeline and training tool. Does not appear to touch on any of the job management part of service delivery.

OneNote
https://www.onenote.com
Keywords: Email/Notes Cost: Free, kinda Audience: Small-Medium (Some on-site IT)
Do you scribble great ideas on napkins and sticky notes? Is precise filing more your style? OneNote's got you covered whatever way you shape your thoughts. Type, write or draw with the free form feel of pen to paper. Search and clip from the web to picture ideas.

PROS: Rich with features. Reliable. Treats all note content as distinct page elements. Familiar interface for Office users. Office 365 users get 1TB of space. CONS: Slow and clunky. Confusing structural design. Poor search in Web app. Requires OneDrive for some management features. Can only share at the notebook level. (not as good as Evernote)

OneNote requires a Microsoft account. A Hotmail, Windows Live, or Outlook email address, although if you have a subscription to Office and use those credentials to sign in, you get more storage space.

Simple Note
https://simplenote.com
Keywords: Email/Notes Cost: Free Audience: Any size but more likely small
If you're on the hunt for a truly simple app that will help you take, save, and sync text notes, Simplenote may satisfy your needs. It works on a variety of platforms, syncs reliably, has only a few features, and supports Markdown for times when you really need just the most basic formatting to be added later in another app.

For a basic note-taking and syncing experience, Simplenote is a reliable, if stripped-down, choice. If simplicity is what you're after, this free service is worth a try. CONS: Lacks notebooks or folders for organizing. Only supports text notes. No formatting tools. No Web clipper.

Google Keep
https://keep.google.com/
Keywords: Email/Notes Cost: Google Keep is free, no upsell Audience: Any size biz could use this
Whether you're on the go, taking notes at a conference or working remotely, you can do it all on your phone, tablet or laptop with these note-keeping tools. Allows you to take pictures and write notes, enter reminders, and keep track of shopping lists, to-do lists and random thoughts (that never seem to make sense when you look at them weeks later). With these free tech tools, it's all easy to access and presented in a format of your choosing (visual or list-form)

Google Keep is a free note-taking and syncing app with a nifty OCR feature, but it lacks the features and mobile apps offered by the competition. CONS: No audio recording ability in the Web app. No desktop apps. Can't mark up images, PDFs. Weak Web clipper. Preview images not well displayed. OCR feature not automatic nor intuitive. PROS: Fast. Customizable labels (tags). Transcribes image text to typed text. Works well with other Google apps. Reminders are well integrated. Free.

FogBugz
https://www.fogcreek.com/fogbugz/pricing
Keywords: Issues/Bugs Cost: $20-$1000/month and up Audience: Medium-Large (On-site IT)
FogBugz is an online based solution for project management that has custom support for big and issue tracking, an integrated discussion forums, wiki support for documentations, and even a customer relationship platform to keep up to date with how your customers are doing. Agile, Issue Desk, Wiki and Dev Hub - the additional features, are independent addons that can be enabled or disable for each of your projects.

Their intro: One tool for task management [of software development], document collaboration, agile development, code management and customer support

Their tagline, which is so generic as to render it useless: Make better software. Track work across multiple people, projects, clients and teams.

Then it's a bit confusing when their "add-ons" (Agile, Wiki, Time Tracking, Dev Hub) are things that would seem to be part of the core offering. But the eyebrow-raiser was the offering of a Wiki add-on. When was FogBugz conceived? Who uses a wiki in for employee collaboration? IMO, standard issue wiki products are no longer viable when it comes to curating, organizing, storing, and sharing company knowledge. (Yes, WikiPedia is a critical success, but technically, it's not because it's a wiki and it's certainly not a corporate application)

This was their only homerun that made me include it here: Made by the company behind Trello and Stack Overflow

Trello (via Fogcreek)
https://trello.com/
Keywords: Issues/Bugs Cost: $0 to $21/user/month Audience: Medium-Large (On-site IT)
Trello is a collaborative platform for creating card-style boards and lists for managing projects, or the general workflow of your life. The situations in which Trello can be useful are truly limitless. And bug tracking is certainly one of the things that Trello is great for. Teams can create custom boards for a timeline of bug reporting and the process of fixing them while having the ability to invite more people to participate, and archive all work that's being done on each issue/bug.

I'm always leary when a company says their product is from start-ups to enterprise-class. The needs, resources, politics and integration touch points of those two groups could not be any further apart. However, with the enterprise pricing at only $21/u/m, maybe Trello can serve both ends. Keywords: Proj/Task Mgmt Cost: $99/month for biz, Students fr Audience: Any biz > than one-person shop
Basecamp is 37signals' first product, a web-based project management tool launched in 2004. Basecamp's primary features are to-do lists, milestone management, forum-like messaging, file sharing, and time tracking. Basecamp Next was released in 2012, while Basecamp 3 was released in 2014. Campfire is a business-oriented online chat service, launched in 2006. In 2016 one of US mobile developers have created a Business Card Reader for Highrise CRM application and in 2017 a Call Tracker for Highrise CRM.

Basecamp, formerly named 37signals, is a privately held American web application company based in Chicago, Illinois. The firm was co-founded in 1999 by Jason Fried, Carlos Segura, and Ernest Kim as a web design company.

Since mid-2004, the company's focus has shifted from web design to web application development. Its first commercial application was Basecamp; this was followed by Backpack, Campfire, and Highrise. The open source web application framework Ruby on Rails was initially created for internal use at 37signals, before being publicly released in 2004.

In February 2014, the company adopted a new strategy, focusing entirely on its flagship product, the software package also named Basecamp, and renaming the company from 37signals to Basecamp.

Here's their elevator pitch: The alternative to Basecamp 3 is a hodgepodge of different tools. Slack, plus Asana Premium, Dropbox, and Gsuite

The only tough part about that is admitting you compete with Google but considering they've been around before Google, they must be doing something very right. As for pricing... Finally, some flat rate fees! No per-user fees, Unlimited users and Unlimited projects

Every workflow type product should all have an elevator pitch above the fold on their home page. Amazing how long it often takes to figure out the essence of what a software product is.

Basecamp is the big daddy of online project management. I selected the audience of Small-Medium but really, it's well suited for any size company.

Perfect Forms Workflow
https://www.perfectforms.com/
Keywords: Workflow, BPM Cost: Not sure / Need to contact Audience: Needs Research
Create any type of online form or workflow application, without writing a single line of code. Simply drag and drop to design a pixel-perfect user interface, map the workflow, integrate with other systems and build reports - all without coding.

How you choose to deploy and access PerfectForms, is entirely up to you. Access the workflow forms software on our servers (hosted in the Cloud) or from your server (On-premise), depending on your unique needs.

We can all agree that forms are the bedrock of any workflow system. Heck, for that matter, forms are the center of any application. Not sure what their base tech is, but it looks Java'ish. Lots of features for building smart forms, perhaps ideal for a person who likes to master an app, but never touch the code. Hard to get a good read on the actual product. Their "videos" are Flash-based and kinda slow-moving if you already know HTML/CSS and some javascript.

Their apps: View icons for the Kiss Apps

Home page says they have 50 apps. Drill down and they say 45. View the image showing all and it's 18. Just that intro makes me wonder what the heck it is they do. While the home page indicates a Mountain View address, most of the job postings are for their Chennai, India office.

To learn more you need to "sign-up" but that begins with an email squeeze, followed by 3 more forms I didn't complete. Not too crazy about web service companies that don't give you an easy way to understand the scope of what they're offering.
